The Morva salt pans can surprise you during the monsoons. The glaring white alkaline stretches that define the landscape in the dry season vanish almost entirely. In their place, the rains and the nearby sea’s high tide bring about a drastic transformation the barren, chalky terrain turns green and alive. What was once deserted becomes inhabited. Trees rise from the soft soil, and various creatures move in, making use of the temporary abundance.

The fine silt and mud that form the bed of the pans respond quickly to this change. During the monsoons, the water collects and settles into shallow ponds. These water-filled pans become breeding grounds  not just for insects or fish, but for entirely new ecosystems. Life begins to reorganize itself, shaped by the nature of the soil and the presence of water.

There are thresholds that this landscape holds subtle boundaries where one type of earth gives way to another. Each soil seems to claim a particular terrain, adapting to the space it occupies. As the seasons shift, the soil itself changes. Its texture, its moisture, even its role  all reprogrammed by time, temperature, and tide. What appears static in one moment is in fact waiting for its turn to evolve.
